Wooden Lidded Box Making

Taught by:

From a single piece of timber, create a box for keepsakes that can fit in your pocket or sit on a dresser. Practice first on a soft sample piece, then move onto hardwood for the final project. Several species, some figured or spalted, will be provided. Use basic spindle cutting techniques to create a simple outside shape, hollow the center, and then create a mortise and tenon joint to fit the top to the bottom. This process preserves the grain lines so they run in a contiguous pattern throughout the box. More advanced techniques for embellishment can be included. Each box will be different and personal; bring design ideas and prepare for a fun and productive weekend. All levels welcome.
