Sweetgrass Basket Weaving
Join Lynette for a journey into the history and tradition of sweetgrass basket weaving. Weaving baskets in this style is one of the earliest African crafts to take root in America. Baskets are coiled together using native materials grown naturally by the marsh - sweetgrass, pine needles, bulrush, and palmetto palm. Lynette brings storied knowledge and roots as a fifth-generation basket maker who learned her craft as a child over 50 years ago from her great-grandmother, Maggie Jefferson Williams and weaves to this day with her mother Marilyn Williams Dingle. Enjoy this deeply relaxing and rejuvenating craft and create a basket of your own. No supply fee; $225 kit fee payable to instructor in class. All levels welcome.
