Skins & Skeletons: New Challenges
In this experimental workshop, learn methods for building skeletal structures with rattan, wood, wire, and found materials. Techniques will include lashing; chaotic plaiting and wire construction; methods for building skins with gut and rice papers; as well as looped, knotted, and recycled netting. Coatings like paintable graphite, acrylics, shellac and kakishibu tannin will further modify surfaces. A series of guided exercises will prompt students to invent unique, original skins. All levels welcome.
