Skins, Skeletons, Nets and Knots: 3D Textiles
Taught by:
In this experimental workshop, students will learn methods for building skeletal structures with semi-rigid materials like rattan, wood, wire and found materials. Techniques will include lashing, chaotic plaiting, and wire construction. Build skins onto these structures with gut, rice papers, and knotless netting. Coatings like paintable graphite, shellac and kakishibu tannin will further modify surfaces. Problem-solving challenges will guide your production of a series of prototypes to ignite your studio practice. All levels welcome.
