Reduction-Cooled Hand Built Pots
Modern methods blend with traditional techniques in this one-of-a-kind extended length workshop. Melissa Weiss will guide the class through new approaches to handbuilding using coils and slabs, plus dive into the charms of kurinuki- forms carved from solid clay. Surfaces will be simple and bold, combining wax resist, oxide wash, and underglaze for bright pops of color. To finish things off, the class will participate in the unique process of reduction cooled high-firing, yielding a stunning variety of results.
NOTE: Designated scholarships for BIPOC students (made possible by Melissa Weiss, Snow Farm, and the Asparagus Valley Pottery Guild) are available for this workshop. The workshop is listed as FULL, but spots are reserved for scholarship recipients. Apply by April 1, 2021.
