Portraiture in Clay
Since ancient times, capturing the human form has driven the artistic spirit. Working from a live model, learn to sculpt a full head portrait in water-based clay. Explore how facial structures and expressions are related to the muscles and bones beneath. Rendering a face in clay is as rewarding as it is challenging, and Jim will guide you through with clarity. Previous experience in drawing is helpful, but prior experience working in clay is not required. Firing is not included, however firing may be requested for an additional fee.
Firing: In some classes, there is not enough time for ceramic projects to dry and be safely fired during the workshop session. However, post-workshop bisque firing can be arranged for an additional fee. In this class that fee could be up to $100, split between classmates who choose to fire. Students are responsible for shipping and handling costs, or may pick up their work in person one week after the class ends.
