Kim Thomas, The Mother of Invention, Flameworking
Aug 8 - Aug 13

The Mother of Invention

Taught by:

Expand your skills and mind by inventing new ways of working with a familiar material. With the assignment to “invent an invention,” students will bring their complex vision and ideas to the torch and tackle the challenges they present. Kim will guide students to modernize traditional flameworking techniques, build kinetic elements, and choreograph hot and cold assembly methods. Whether the concept is mechanical, compositional, process-oriented, useful, or absurd, the class will explore the versatility of borosilicate glass to meet the creative needs of a growing artist. Supply fee covers specialty material that will be provided; students can bring glass rods or purchase during class based on individual usage.
