Monochrome Mosaic: An Exploration of the Mosaic Language

Taught by:

Mosaic is often used as a sturdier interpretation of another medium (painting, photography, etc), but there is a whole world of potential for mosaic as mosaic: works that are designed for the medium from concept to execution. In this workshop, leave behind mosaic interpretation and explore mosaic creation through monochromatic works. Focus on the language of the tessera, the conversation between materials and andamento, and the stories you can tell. With guided support, design, plan, and create a mosaic art piece in the color and medium of your choice. Hammer and hardie will be demonstrated but students may also work with nippers. This is a great introduction, or a chance for more advanced students to expand their vision and technique. All levels welcome.
