Luminaria: A Sculptural Approach to the Translucent Polymer Form

Taught by:

Explore structural and artistic possibilities of translucent polymer clay by creating a two-piece Luminaria. Learn hollow form construction, incorporating sculptural effects such as pinching, piercing, cutwork, fluting, and bottle necks. Add textural effects drawn from nature, recreating lichens, craters, fungi, and flora. Lastly, use Genesis oil paints to develop depth and color. The finished vessels will be approximately 5-6 in. tall and use an LED battery light for a soft glow. Students should have some previous experience in polymer clay or ceramic sculpture or jewelry making.
