Intermediate Flameworking: Blown Pendants, Vessels & Bottles

Start with blown glass pendants and learn to blow an even glass bubble at the torch using hollow mandrels. Next learn shaping techniques to create shell and flower pendants; improvise with “mistakes” to create one-of-a-kind, abstract pieces. From pendants, move in to create beautiful, miniature, wearable vessels and non-wearable perfume bottles. Demonstrations will include how to create a beautiful form using various shaping techniques, the particulars of shaping of a neck, lip, and handles, and how to create glass/cork stoppers to fit the vessels. Intermediate flameworkers will work in soft glass to explore various coloring, encasing, sculptural, and decorative design techniques throughout the class. Supply fee covers specialty material that will be provided; students can bring glass rods or purchase during class based on individual usage.
