History of Collage
Collage is a gateway art form, a starting point for endless experimentation. In this workshop, explore four types of collage: narrative, abstract, paper cutting, and mixed media. For each one, consider the work of one or two artists working in the form, and use them as a guide. After a discussion of relevant materials and techniques and a short warmup, students will translate ideas into their own projects. The techniques are accessible, allowing conversation to focus on content, meaning, and composition. Discussion about the class work derived from each type of collage will offer rich learning and a wellspring of ideas about what to learn or try next. All levels welcome.
