Handbuilding Double-Walled Bowls
Explore the format of bowls as sculptural vessels as well as abstract objects. Students will learn a variety of handbuilding techniques used in double walled construction. The process allows for an emphasis on volume and form without excess weight. Class begins brainstorming directly in clay by making small maquettes to experiment with shape and proportion. These solid sketches will be translated into larger but hollow forms through special techniques, using custom tools made in class. Learning will be centered on construction and building processes. Not all work will be finished, although some pieces may be bisque fired. Post-workshop bisque firing will also be available at additional cost.
