Ceramics & Ceremony: Intention in Making & Use

Taught by:

Symbol, ceremony, and ritual work on the unconscious in serendipitous ways. When human touch on clay is preserved through fire, an infinite layer of connection is created. Students will explore these ideas along with mindfulness-in-making while learning building methods such as coil, pinch, slab, and wheel throwing. Surfaces will spring alive through burnishing and mark making with materials and tools. Clay pieces that are finished and dry will be transformed by fire in the centuries-old process of pit firing. Take home finished objects that will infuse everyday rituals and special events with celebration, intention, and mindfulness. All levels welcome.

NOTE: Some work will be fired this session and some may be eligible for post workshop firing. See details here.
