Lois Russell

Lois Russell is a fiber artist whose sculptural work reflects her background as a traditional basket maker. Her current work is primarily twining with waxed linen. She also uses coiling, knotting and random weave. She has won numerous awards in juried exhibitions including an Award of Excellence. She was Category Winner in Excellence in Fiber 2016. Lois' work is included in 500 Baskets and other books on fiber arts, and has been featured in Fiber Art Now. Her work is included in private collections including the Kamm Collection, and she has exhibited two pieces Rooted, Revived and Reinvented: Basketry in America national exhibition. Based in the Boston area, Lois' teaching has included working with basketry and weaving guilds across the country as well as at National Basketry Organization conferences, Haystack Mountain School of Craft, Arrowmont, North Country Studio Workshops and Snow Farm. In January 2021 the National Basketry Organization gave her a Lifetime Achievement Award. She currently serves on the board of Penland School of Craft and is president of the board of the Society of Arts and Crafts in Boston.
