Painter/printmaker Leigh Niland made an early start in her arts career as a volunteer with homelessness and mental health arts charities in East London. These experiences and her arts practice led to receiving a full placement on the Royal Drawing School’s The Drawing Year Postgraduate Programme in London, 2005. She then earned an MA in Printmaking at the University of the Arts London in 2008 before moving back stateside in 2010. A 2019 Ewing Arts Award recipient in 2-D Art, Niland’s working practice is deeply rooted in observational drawing of the figure and built environment. Through the Royal Drawing School, Niland has been on residencies to Dumfries House, Scotland; Château De Balleroy, France and has taught drawing at BFA level in New Delhi, India. She has also taught as adjunct at NH Institute of Art (printmaking), New England College (drawing). Niland is currently faculty at the River Gallery School of Art.
