Laury Nichols

Laury Nichols fashions custom wood carving projects and highly detailed whimsical animal characters from her workshop in rural Chichester, NH. Laury began her carving career as a sign carver, had her first wood carving show in 1973, became a state juried member of the League of NH Craftsmen in 1976, and opened her own studio in 1983. In the course of her career she has taught students of all ages both in the US and abroad. Her awards include Special Award of Merit and Public Choice Award at the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen "Living with Crafts" Exhibition, and the prestigious Best of Show at New England Woodcarvers Spirit of Wood Exhibition. Her carving of Socks the Cat requested for the Clinton White House was pictured in Newsweek magazine, and her Christmas ornament of a carved stocking filled with toys is in the permanent collection of the New Hampshire Historical Society.
