Emily Parkinson has a life-long textile love affair. She has studied surface design and screen-printing at RISD and Penland, fashion design at Cornell University, taught surface technique workshops, and delved into the science of natural dyeing with experts Catharine Ellis and Joy Boutrup. In 2019, she and her sister started Homebody Textiles, a naturally dyed, hand printed textile company. This collaboration has focused her creative practice on thoughtful, intentionally designed textile goods and has been an opportunity to dive deep into natural colors, hand-drawn patterns, and small scale printing. When her gloved hands aren’t elbow deep in an indigo vat, she can be found biking in the Blue Ridge Mountains, hosting elaborate dinner parties, or on the porch embroidering.
