Elsa Hoffman lives and works in Providence, RI as a Merit Fellow: artist-in-residence at the Steel Yard. After studying art at Oberlin College and working as an assistant for sculptor Patrick Dougherty and designing and building her own functional wood cabinetry and furniture, Elsa discovered a love of metal in 2012. Since then she has honed her welding and cutting skills and has become particularly renowned for her loose and gestural work using a plasma cutter as a drawing tool. Elsa's large-scale metal cutouts have been exhibited in galleries, botanical gardens, homes and businesses throughout North Carolina as well as in the Julian Robertson Collection in NYC, Union Station, Raleigh, and at the UNC Project Annex in Lilongwe, Malawi.
