Sharon Raymond is a self-taught shoemaker, dedicated to teaching others to make their own footwear. She feels it is beneficial to the individual and to our planet for people to be able to choose what their footwear is made of, where and under what conditions it is made, what design features it has, and how much it costs. Making ecological footwear is important to her: as a result in her workshops she avoids the use of shoe cements and uses recycled or earth-friendly materials. She shares her shoemaking techniques in books she has written and in workshops offered in her home studio, in adult education classes and in New England craft centers.
