Independent Residency

Apr 10 to Apr 23

Experienced makers are invited to spend two weeks at Snow Farm  enjoying private, creative work time in our studios. There are no workshops at Snow Farm in the early spring, so the campus will be quiet as the early greens start to appear.  The independent residency is ideal for someone seeking uninterrupted, focused time to explore a material, pursue an experiment, or create a body of work. Residencies are available in five studios:  metalsmithing/jewelry, ceramics, flat glass (suitable for fusing, stained glass, and mosaics), 2D/mixed media, and the farmhouse (suitable for fibers, 2D, mixed media).

Take a closer look at the Snow Farm studios here and below.

The residency period is two weeks with arrival on April 10, 2023 and departure on April 23, 2023.

Housing & Meals

Residents can choose to stay at Snow Farm or use local accommodations. On-campus housing options include:

  • The Cottage:  The Cottage, with two single beds, a kitchenette, a small seating area, and a bathroom with shower, is available for one person or two people traveling together.
  • The Farmhouse:  On the first floor, the farmhouse contains a studio and two administrative offices.  On the second floor, there are two more offices, two bedrooms, a shared bathroom, and a shared kitchen. One bedroom is small with a single bed, a dresser, and a chair.  The second bedroom has a queen bed, a dresser, and a chair. One person or two people traveling together can stay in this room. Please note that during the week, the Snow Farm staff will also use the bathroom and kitchen in the Farmhouse.
Housing Price per Session
Farmhouse Single $500
Farmhouse Queen (for 1 or 2 people) $650
Cottage (for 1 or 2 people) $650

Residents are responsible for providing their own meals. Both the Cottage and the Farmhouse include access to a kitchen with a fridge, oven/stove, and basic supplies. The main Snow Farm kitchen will be closed but residents can use the dining hall and common room to gather for meals, movies, and downtime.

The residency wlll open with welcome brunch on the first Tuesday and end the residency with a celebratory happy hour at Williamsburg's own local tavern.  We'll also help organize a mid-session bring-your-own lunch where residents can, if they wish, invite others to see what's happening in their studio or share slides with fellow residents and staff.
