Ajas work is abstract and organic, and a result of thinking: upside down, inside out, in an effort to stand out and carve her own niche. The principles of wabi sabi fascinate- and textures that are worn, rough, rusty or patinaed inspire her. Lichen growing on boulders or branches, irregular bark and crackled, faded facades are referenced while working on sets. How to bring the organic into a molten piece of glass? Nearly all Ajas work is blown hollows, etched to take away shine, usually fuming is involved to help with reactions and the color palette is earthy. Nature has always been a balm, translating that love while lampworking for over a decade is something thats always important. Once she manages to make someone ask, This is glass?!, she knows she has succeeded in translating her vision.
