Smoke & Fire: Raku And Pit Firing

In this action packed three days, you'll do a series of pit firings, characteristic of Native American pottery, and Raku firings, with roots in the tea ceremony of Japan.  We'll explore, as well, the decorative versatility of terra sigillatta "coloration", found within both Native American and Greek works in clay.  Surface flashing, colorant oxides, multiple-firings, uses of slips and much more will be covered.  Bring your white stoneware, cone 06 bisque pots and come ready for action.  All firing materials are recycled scrap wood and shavings from local woodworkers.
