First we will pattern fabrics with three shibori techniques: arashi pole-wrapping, itajime clamping and adire elesso scrunching. Seasoned shibori-dyers will break through to contemporary innovations on these techniques. Next, these shibori fabrics will be patterned and layered with the organic crackled effects of potato dextrin paste resist. Students will learn to use procion dyes and bleach as immersion baths as well as in a thickened paint-like manner.

Bio: Mo Kelman work in fiber has been shown from coast to coast and abroad, including the International Shibori Symposium in Japan as well as at Brown University's Bell Art Gallery. She is a recipient of a NEA award and is a Professor of Art at the Community College of Rhode Island and has taught numerous workshops internationally from Kyoto Japan to Haystack, ME.
