Although monotypes are one of a kind prints, the way they are printed, and what gets left behind on the plate, generates a series of prints. Each day we will focus on a new monotype technique. Students will learn transfer drawing to explore simple mark making with surprisingly beautiful lines, how to create masks and stencils for easy shapes and forms, simple carving to make repeating relief images, and reworking and layering collage elements to build several series of related prints. This workshop will serve as an introduction to new practices and supportive exercises for creating simple hand printed monotypes that students can also make at home without a press.
