From the artisans of ancient Greece, to Jasper Johns who brought encaustic into the modern art world, painting with wax has enraptured artists for centuries. The art of painting with hot wax provides limitless possibilities for any artist, and once you experience this amazing technique, you"­ll be hooked! Explore this ancient medium of painting with hot wax in new and exciting ways. This workshop will cover safe practices, as well as surface preparation, mixing colors, tools and techniques for fusing, transparencies and glazes, layering, scraping, and scribing, line and edge, collage, assemblage, monotype, image transfer, and much more. Participants will have the opportunity to complete several small encaustic paintings during this workshop.

Bio: Deborah Nathan is a fiber artist who focuses her creative talent on the application of colorful dyes on various textiles. Debbie has spent almost 20 years perfecting her work with silk, acquiring a reputation as a preeminent artist in this medium. Under her trade name of D'ovra Artworks, she creates numerous hand-dyed and painted articles including a line of clothing, as well as Judaic items and fine art pieces.
